Scholarships help Sean Davies become a real student of the games of football and of life.
Sean Davies, a captain and starting offensive guard on the Aggies football team, is the epitome of the UC Davis scholar-athlete. He maintains a 3.5 GPA in a challenging double major (Political Science and History), was named to the 2011 All-Great West Conference First Team and is a candidate for the 2012 National Football Foundation Scholar-Athlete Awards. He also makes time with his teammates to visit children at Shriner’s Hospital, read to local school kids, and help run clinics for Special Olympians.
Sean’s talent and hard work have been recognized by several scholarships, including the Thomas Y. Cooper Memorial Football Scholarship and the George Belenis Memorial Football Scholarship — both made possible through the generous support of donors.
As a freshman he was a “walk-on” to the turf at Aggie Stadium, drawn to UC Davis not by a scholarship, but by the university’s and the football program’s commitment to nurture both the student and the athlete. The scholarships came later.
“I’ve always strived to do my best, both on and off the field,” Sean says, “so it felt really great to have that effort recognized.”
Head Football Coach Bob Biggs says, “Sean complements his work ethic with his intellect and because of that he’s a real student of the game.”
Sean says it’s a privilege to be an ambassador of UC Davis and Aggie football, and he works hard to represent “the qualities that make UC Davis special” and are a big part of “Aggie Pride.”
“When you have all of those qualities wrapped up in an individual,” Coach Biggs says of Sean, “you have someone very special.”
