Cecelia Lakatos Sullivan ’83 is staying connected to her daughter Kaela ’12 and her alma mater by giving to the UC Davis Parents Fund.
Cecelia Sullivan and her husband Patrick ’83, M.D. ’87 agree that one of the best decisions their daughter, Kaela, ever made was to attend UC Davis.
Kaela came to UC Davis as a transfer student, and, as Cecelia explains, “soon discovered all the wonderful aspects of a UC Davis education that we benefitted from when we attended.”
At UC Davis, Kaela is earning a degree in communications and working a campus job to support her career ambitions in sports-related broadcasting and public relations. She also volunteers her time with a local mentoring program and is an officer and rider for the UC Davis Equestrian team.
“UC Davis is a university where focused academics and a commitment to the individual learner shape students into adults who are compassionate, mature and critical thinkers,” Cecelia said. “For this reason and many more, we give to the Parents Fund.”
The UC Davis Parents Fund recognizes parents who make gifts to the university through the UC Davis Annual Fund. Parents Fund donations provide flexible funding for the university, supporting student scholarships, faculty awards to support teaching, research and public service, and other university priorities.
“The thing that’s most distinct about UC Davis is that it’s an integrated education. Academics are important, but here also is a deep sense of involvement in the larger community,” Cecelia said. “There is an emphasis on making a difference in the world when you graduate. That is what we want to support with our gift and why we hope other parents will support UC Davis and the Parents Fund too.”
